What Are Research Peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by peptide bonds. They sit structurally between individual amino acids and full-length proteins, typically ranging from 2 to about 50 residues. Their compact size and defined sequences make them tractable tools for laboratory research in receptor binding, signaling pathway analysis, and biochemical assay development.
Synthesis methods
Most modern research peptides are produced through Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis (SPPS). In this approach, the peptide chain is anchored to a solid resin support and amino acids are coupled to it one at a time using protected building blocks. Each coupling step adds one residue, with deprotection between steps. Longer peptides may instead be produced via recombinant DNA expression in bacterial or yeast systems.
Why purity matters
A peptide reported as 95% pure may contain 5% truncated sequences, deletion products, or oxidation byproducts. In research assays, these contaminants can produce misleading signal. All catalog compounds are verified to ≥99% HPLC purity with mass spectrometry confirmation of identity on every batch.
Lyophilization
Lyophilization (freeze-drying) removes water from the peptide solution, leaving a stable dry powder. Properly stored at −20 °C, lyophilized peptides retain integrity for years. Reconstituted solutions degrade significantly faster — see the Storage article for handling specifics.

Lab Testing & Verified Purity
Every batch released for sale undergoes a comprehensive independent test cycle — without exception. Vials are pulled from each batch and sent to an ISO-accredited laboratory unaffiliated with our facility, with additional vials archived as conformity retains for re-testing and audit traceability up to 24 months after release.
Identity — Mass Spectrometry
Mass spec confirms the molecular weight of the synthesized compound matches the theoretical target value. This catches structural errors, missing residues, and unexpected modifications.
Net Peptide Content
Distinguishes actual peptide mass from counter-ion content (typically TFA or acetate). A 10 mg vial labeled "10 mg" may contain less than 10 mg of net peptide depending on counter-ion fraction. This test reports the real number you can use for assay concentration calculations.
HPLC Purity
Reverse-phase HPLC at 214 nm separates peptide-related impurities from the main product. Catalog grade targets ≥99% area-under-peak.
Sterility, Endotoxins, Heavy Metals
USP-aligned sterility verification on filled vials. LAL (Limulus Amebocyte Lysate) testing for bacterial endotoxin levels. ICP-MS screen for lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic against USP <232> limits.
Conformity retains
Two vials per batch are sealed and archived for potential future re-testing. This audit trail is part of our quality system.

Reading a Certificate of Analysis
A Certificate of Analysis (COA) documents every test result for a specific manufacturing batch. Here is how to read ours.
Header
- Product name and CAS number
- Test date — must match the label on your vial
- Manufacture date and retest date
- Net contents in milligrams
Identity confirmation
Theoretical molecular weight (calculated from the sequence). Observed molecular weight (measured by mass spec). The difference between them should be at or very near zero — within standard tolerance.
Purity result
- HPLC method conditions (column, gradient, detection wavelength)
- Main peak retention time
- Area-under-peak as a percentage
- Chromatogram trace showing all detected peaks for visual inspection
Net peptide content
Total peptide mass separate from counter-ion content. Reported as percentage of vial weight.
Microbiological data
Sterility result (pass / fail). Endotoxin units per vial — typically below 0.5 EU/vial.
Heavy metals
Concentration of each tested metal compared against USP <232> limits.
If anything on your COA doesn't match what's on the vial label or our public specification, contact us immediately and include the test date printed on your vial.

Storage & Handling Standards
Proper storage preserves the chemical integrity of research compounds. Lyophilized peptides are stable for years if stored correctly; reconstituted solutions degrade significantly faster.
Lyophilized (dry powder)
- Store at −20 °C in the original sealed vial
- Protect from light — keep in opaque container or original packaging
- Avoid temperature cycling — only pull vials you plan to use
- Bring vials to room temperature before opening to prevent moisture condensation
Reconstituted solutions
- Use bacteriostatic water, sterile water, or 0.9% saline depending on protocol
- Short-term: store at 2–8 °C (days)
- Longer-term: aliquot and freeze at −20 °C or −80 °C
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles — each cycle degrades a small percentage of intact peptide
Working with vials
- Use sterile technique when piercing the stopper
- Equilibrate to room temperature before reconstitution
- Document reconstitution date, solvent, and concentration on the vial
- Inspect solutions for cloudiness or precipitate before use
Storage specifications can vary slightly for specific compounds — always reference the batch-specific guidance shipped with each order.

Shipping & Cold Chain
Most lyophilized research peptides are stable at ambient temperature for the duration of standard 2-day shipping. Here is what to expect.
Our shipping process
- Orders placed before 2 PM EST ship the same business day
- Packaging includes desiccant and insulated wrap for temperature buffering
- All packages ship via FedEx 2-Day with tracking
- Overnight shipping available on request for cold-sensitive batches
Stability during transit
Lyophilized peptides tolerate brief exposure to summer transit temperatures without measurable degradation. Manufacturer specifications include a built-in stability margin for typical shipping conditions. Long-term storage stability is unaffected as long as the vial returns to −20 °C upon arrival.
On arrival
- Inspect the outer box for damage
- Verify vials are intact, sealed, and properly labeled
- Move to −20 °C storage within a few hours of receipt
- If transit time exceeds 5 days due to carrier delay, contact us — we may recommend re-testing or replacement
Refrigerated shipping
Available for an additional fee. Recommended for compounds with known thermal sensitivity. Adds 1–2 days to handling for cold pack preparation.
International
Currently US-only including Alaska and Hawaii. International researchers should contact us before ordering for case-by-case evaluation.
